Both assess Spanish proficiency, but they are designed for different needs.
DELE is the official Spanish diploma awarded by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education. It has international recognition and indefinite validity.
TAELE is an online, remotely proctored Spanish proficiency test provided by Academia Uruguay, a recognized DELE examination center.
TAELE and DELE are separate examinations. A TAELE certificate is not a DELE diploma and is not issued by Instituto Cervantes.
The best choice depends on what you need your Spanish certificate for.
What is DELE?
DELE (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is the official Spanish diploma awarded by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education.
It certifies Spanish proficiency at levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Instituto Cervantes states that DELE has international recognition and indefinite validity.
DELE examinations are administered through Instituto Cervantes and its network of more than 1,000 examination centers in more than 100 countries.

What is TAELE?
TAELE is an online Spanish proficiency test provided by Academia Uruguay.
The examination is conducted completely online with live remote proctoring, allowing candidates to take the test from home, work or another suitable location.
TAELE assesses four core Spanish-language competencies:
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking
TAELE certifies levels A2 through C2.
The certificate identifies both your overall Spanish level and your level in each of the four competencies.
The Academia Uruguay connection
TAELE is provided by Academia Uruguay, an established Spanish-language institution and a recognized DELE examination center.
Instituto Cervantes describes DELE examination centers as centers recognized by Instituto Cervantes to administer DELE examinations and support candidates with information about the examinations.
Academia Uruguay’s experience as a DELE examination center gives TAELE candidates the benefit of an institution already involved in the administration and assessment of Spanish-language examinations.
An important distinction
TAELE is not DELE.
Academia Uruguay’s status as a DELE examination center does not mean that TAELE is an Instituto Cervantes examination.
The two examinations remain separate:

Check the requirements before you register
The most important question isn’t simply which examination you prefer.

What certificate does the organization receiving it require?
If they specifically require DELE, TAELE cannot substitute for it.
If they accept a Spanish proficiency certificate from another provider, TAELE may offer a more convenient online option.
